AN INTRODUCTION TO THE CONFERENCE

The BIMP-EAGA Community-based ecotourism conference is jointly organized by the BIMP-EAGA Business Council (BEBC) and the BIMP-EAGA Tourism Council (BETC). The event is an official sanction BIMP-EAGA event endorsed by all four governments of BIMP-EAGA.

Over the past few years community-based ecotourism has become one of the fastest growing sectors of the tourism industry. With two of the four largest tropical rainforest in the world as well as the richest marine eco-system, the sub region is poised to become the premier destination for ecotourism.

The conference is designed to raise the awareness and appreciation by national and local governments, local communities and the private sector in the development of ecotourism initiatives in the area. The event will address sustainable management of terrestrial and marine resources. It will also feature a showcase of eco-destinations and institutional services.
