M’sia showcases itself in Brunei: ‘3-day super trade show in March at ICC’

BRUNEI Darussalam will host the first Malaysia Showcase 2010 from March 5 to 7 at the International Convocation Centre. MATRADE and Tourism Malaysia, together with Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council and Enterprise Asia are supporting and participating in the event.
The event is organised by Evetneka Sdn Bhd, a Malaysia-based event management company and according to sources, it has already been given the green light by the Malaysian High Commissioner in Brunei.
The first of a series of regional roadshow, which will cover the whole of Asean, the Middle East and India, it highlights the country’s products and services, technological capabilities as well as attractiveness as an investment and tourism destination.



According to a press release from Eventneka Sdn Bhd, the first exhibition and trade mission in Brunei comprises 60 companies from Malaysia in six themed clusters which include Cuti-Cuti Malaysia, Malaysia Food Bazaar, Investment in Malaysia Seminar, Education Malaysian 2010, Buy Malaysia Products and Malaysia Healthcare.
Some of the key exhibitors include Setia Haruman Sdn Bhd, Cyberview Sdn Bhd, CCM Berhad, Maybank, Proton and Mah Sing.
More than 240-strong business contingent from Malaysia will participate in the event, which is expected to attract some 20,000 trade visitors and consumers from Brunei, as well as from the Brunei Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines – East Asean Growth Area (Bimp-Eaga) Senator Dato’ T Murugiah, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, who presided over the launching ceremony in Malaysia, said that it will be an opportunity for Malaysian companies to tap into the growing and underserved Brunei market.
“The trade value between Malaysia and Brunei up to November 2009 is valued at RM1.84 billion and Malaysia is the third largest exporter to Brunei after United Kingdom and Singapore.
“We’ve also had 1.2 million tourist arrivals from Brunei in 2009. Brunei is Malaysia’s fourth biggest tourist group. There’s immense opportunity to grow this further, and seal our position as a leading business partner with Brunei, which has a long and cordial ties with Malaysia,” Dato’ Murugiah said.
Meanwhile, Datuk Haji Rahmat Ismail, Chairman of Eventneka Sdn Bhd, said, “The Brunei government is encouraging the local business community to venture into new industries in partnership with foreign businesses.
“This is an excellent opportunity for Malaysian companies to combine our resources and know-how with Brunei counterparts to bring businesses in both countries to greater heights.”
Besides the exhibition, there will be an extensive list of activities, which include a food festival, tourism bazaar, product launches, and business matching and investment seminars.
Major distributions and trading houses in. Brunei have also confirmed their participation in the business matching sessions. Malaysian companies participating in the Malaysia Showcase 2010 are eligible for support from MATRADE under the Market Development Grant and Services Export Fund.
